System and Device Requirements

My Dealer Jacket runs in a web browser. There is nothing to install, no version to keep up to date, and no minimum specification worth quoting. This page covers the few things that genuinely matter — the browser settings the app depends on, what changes on a small screen, and when clearing your cache actually helps.

Any current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. Keep it updated; browsers update themselves by default, and that is the setting to leave alone.

This is the one that causes real problems. Documents in My Dealer Jacket — temporary tags, registrations, deal jacket forms, fee quotes — are built when you ask for them and then opened in a new tab. Browsers treat a tab opened a moment after your click as a pop-up, so a blocker stops it and you get no error and no document.

When we can tell that has happened, we show a small window headed Please click the link below with the document as a link, so you are never stuck. But allowing pop-ups for this site removes the extra step everywhere at once.

A cookie is what keeps you signed in. Block cookies, or run a strict privacy extension, and you will be sent back to the sign-in page over and over. See Resolving Login Problems.

The app works on a phone and on a tablet — the wizards, dialogs and lists are built for a small screen, not squeezed onto one. In practice:

  • Good on a phone: looking something up, checking a deal, photographing a title or a driver license, scanning a VIN, approving something between appointments.
  • Better on a computer: long forms with many fields, side-by-side comparison, and anything you are going to print.

Printing needs a computer attached to your printer. A temporary tag has to come out on official tag paper, lined up correctly — which is not something to attempt from a phone. See Printing Troubleshooting.

Uploading a photo of a document, or scanning a VIN with the camera, uses whatever your device offers — the camera or your existing photo library. Your browser will ask permission the first time; if you said no by accident, the permission is reset in your browser or phone settings for this site.

Photos taken on an iPhone are in a format most systems cannot read, so we convert them in your browser as you attach them. You do not have to do anything. If a photo cannot be read at all, it is refused at the moment you attach it and says so — rather than uploading a file nobody can open later.

A passkey signs you in with the fingerprint, face or screen lock you already use. It needs a device and browser that support them, which covers most phones and recent computers. The buttons are on the screen either way — on a device that cannot hold a passkey, clicking one shows an error rather than a fingerprint prompt. Nothing is wrong with your account; use your password on that device. See Setting Up and Using Passkeys.

You do not need to watch for updates. When a new version is released, a small Update available card appears in the corner of the page with a Reload now button. Clicking it is all that is needed — that is the app telling you your open tab is running yesterday’s version.

Clearing your cache is rarely the answer, and it signs you out of other sites as a side effect. Before you reach for it:

  1. Reload the page. Then reload it once more holding Shift, which fetches a fresh copy rather than the stored one.
  2. Try a private or incognito window. If it works there, it is something stored locally, and then clearing the cache for this site is worth doing.
  3. Turn off extensions for this site. Ad and privacy blockers are the usual cause of a control that does nothing.

If it still misbehaves, contact support — tell us the browser, the page, and what you expected to happen. A screenshot of the whole window, address bar included, is worth several messages.
