Signing In to My Dealer Jacket
Signing in starts with your email and then asks how you want to prove it is you. There is usually more than one answer, which is the useful thing to know: a forgotten password does not lock you out. Sign in at app.mydealerjacket.com.
Your email comes first
Section titled “Your email comes first”Type your email and click Continue. Nothing is asked for before that — no password field, no choice to make.
What happens next depends on the address:
- We know it. You get the screen below, or go straight to the password box if that is the only way this account can sign in.
- We do not know it. You are not told “no such account”. We offer to create one, on that address, with an 8-digit code emailed to it — the screen says “We did not find an account for this email, so we will create one for you.”
Choosing how to sign in
Section titled “Choosing how to sign in”How would you like to sign in?
Signing in as: maria@sunshineauto.exampleChange
You will not see all four. The list is only what your account has set up, and Use my password is the one every account has.
| Choose | When it is the right one |
|---|---|
| Use your passkey | Always, if you have one. It is the fastest, and it is the only way in that never also asks for a code |
| Email me a code | You have forgotten your password. Nothing is needed but the inbox you already have open |
| Text me a code / Send me a code on WhatsApp | Same, when your phone is easier to reach than your email |
| Use my password | You know it and you would rather type it |
A passkey takes about ten seconds to set up and is worth doing once — see Setting Up and Using Passkeys.
Using your password
Section titled “Using your password”Enter your password
Signing in as: maria@sunshineauto.exampleChange
Passwords are case-sensitive. Two links sit under the box and both are ways out:
- Forgot password? starts a reset, with your email already filled in — Resetting Your Password.
- Use another way goes back to the list above, which is the faster fix if you have a passkey or can read a code.
Signing in with Google
Section titled “Signing in with Google”Sign in with Google sits under an Or divider on the first screen, along with Sign in with a passkey. Both are on that first screen only — once you have continued past your email, the screen is asking you to prove who you are and shows the ways this account can.
Use the Google account with the same email address as your My Dealer Jacket login. If you pick a different one, we do not recognise it as you — we sign you up as a brand new customer with a brand new empty dealership. If that has already happened, contact support rather than trying to sort it out yourself.
The code you may be asked for
Section titled “The code you may be asked for”Two different things send you to a code screen, and they look alike:
- You chose Email me a code or Text me a code as your way in.
- You signed in with your password, and two-factor authentication is on for you.
Either way the screen is Check your email or Check your phone, and you type the code and click Verify.
- You will not be asked every time on the two-factor path. Once you enter a code, that device is remembered for 30 days.
- Only one device is remembered at a time. Entering a code on a new device makes the old one forgotten, so the machine at the office will ask again next time. That is normal.
- It can be re-sent, and re-routed. Didn’t receive a code? offers Resend, and Resend via email instead / via text message / via WhatsApp when the account has more than one channel.
- Use your password instead is on that screen too, when the account has a password.
Two-factor is switched on and off in Settings → Two-Factor Authentication — see Maintaining Security on Your Account.
If it will not let you sign in
Section titled “If it will not let you sign in”| What you see | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| A screen offering to create an account | The address is wrong. See the warning above — do not finish that screen |
| Incorrect email or password | Check the address first. An invitation sent to a different address than the one you are typing is the common cause |
| Too many attempts. Please wait a few minutes and try again. | Nothing is wrong with your password. Too many attempts have come from your office in a short time. Stop, wait a few minutes, then try once |
| A passkey prompt that never appears | The passkey lives on a particular device. Use Use my password or a code on this device, then add a passkey here too |
| This account has no sign-in method available | Every way in has been turned off for this account. This one genuinely needs us — contact support |
| You get in, but the dealership is not the one you expect | You are viewing a different business — see Working at More Than One Dealership |
If none of these fit, Resolving Login Problems goes symptom by symptom.
After you sign in
Section titled “After you sign in”We email you the first time your account is signed into from a new internet connection — a different office, a phone on cellular data, a hotel. Your usual laptop on hotel Wi-Fi will trigger one; a brand new computer on your own office Wi-Fi may not. If one of those emails describes something you did not do, change your password immediately and contact support.
