Printing Troubleshooting
Almost everything you print from My Dealer Jacket is a PDF that opens in a new browser tab, and you print it from there. That one fact causes most of the problems on this page. Find your symptom below.
I clicked print and nothing happened

Documents are built first and then opened, and browsers treat an opening that happens a moment after your click as a pop-up. When we notice, we show a small window headed Please click the link below with the document as a link — clicking it opens the document. If you missed it, or if it did not appear, allow pop-ups for this site and try again.
This is the single most common printing complaint, and it is worth fixing properly rather than working around: several parts of the app open documents this way. System and Device Requirements covers where the setting lives.
A message says the documents are still being prepared
Section titled “A message says the documents are still being prepared”Documents are generated when you open the page, not stored in advance, so on a slow connection the button can be ready before the file is. Wait a moment and press it again.
If a document fails outright, it says so and offers to try again. If it keeps failing, contact support and say which document it is.
The temporary tag prints in the wrong place on the paper
Section titled “The temporary tag prints in the wrong place on the paper”Three separate things cause this, and they need different fixes.
The boxes are doubled up, or missing
Section titled “The boxes are doubled up, or missing”Official temporary tag paper comes with the tag’s boxes already printed on it. So the PDF has to leave them off — otherwise you get two sets, slightly out of line.
On the issued registration, the temporary tag preview carries a small For paper control with two choices: With boxes and Without boxes. Pick the one that describes the paper loaded in your printer, not the printout you want:

The whole tag is shifted
Section titled “The whole tag is shifted”Temporary tag paper is off-center by design — the tag does not sit in the middle of the sheet. There is no setting that fixes this for you; you have to work out which way round your printer wants the sheet in the tray, and that differs by printer.
Do it once, deliberately, on a plain sheet: print a tag, hold it up against a real piece of tag paper, and note which way the sheet has to go in. Write it on the tray. Then keep the paper stacked the same way every time.
It printed small, or with margins around it
Section titled “It printed small, or with margins around it”In the print dialog, set scaling to 100% or Actual size, not Fit to page. Fitting to the page shrinks the tag, and a shrunken tag does not line up with pre-printed boxes.
The tag comes out completely blank
Section titled “The tag comes out completely blank”Some printers cannot handle the lettering inside the PDF and put out an empty sheet. There is a picture version that avoids this entirely: on the issued registration, use the arrow beside Print PDF and choose Open Temp Tag Image, then print that. It prints as a photo, so there is nothing for the printer to get wrong.
The tag prints faint, or the printer will not take the paper
Section titled “The tag prints faint, or the printer will not take the paper”Tag paper is thick, waterproof stock — considerably heavier than office paper. Most printers need to be told:
- Set the paper type to extra heavyweight, card stock, or whatever your printer calls its thickest setting. On the wrong setting the toner or ink does not bond properly and the tag comes out faint or smears.
- Feed it from the tray your printer recommends for heavy stock. On many machines that is the manual or rear tray rather than the main cassette.
- Load one type at a time. Regular and motorcycle paper are different sizes.

I need to print a tag again, or on different paper
Section titled “I need to print a tag again, or on different paper”Open the registration again and print from there. The documents are regenerated each time, so you can switch the For paper choice and print a second copy without re-issuing anything.
I want to print everything for a registration at once
Section titled “I want to print everything for a registration at once”Use Print PDF at the top of an issued registration for the whole package, or the Print button under an individual document. The arrow beside Print PDF also offers Print combined PDF, Send to customer, and — on a temporary tag — Open Temp Tag Image if you want the image rather than the PDF.
Which documents exist depends on the transaction: a temporary tag has the tag itself, a registration and a temp tag authorization; a title and registration has a title receipt as well; a quote has only its fee calculation.
A deal jacket document prints blank in places
Section titled “A deal jacket document prints blank in places”The document is only as complete as the deal jacket behind it. A blank on a form is a section you have not filled in yet — the jacket’s section bar shows which. Fill it in and generate the document again.

The PDF opens but will not print from the browser
Section titled “The PDF opens but will not print from the browser”Download it and open it in a PDF reader instead, then print from there. Browser PDF viewers vary, and some of them handle exact-size printing badly — which matters on a temporary tag more than anywhere else.
Still stuck
Section titled “Still stuck”Contact support. Tell us the registration or deal jacket, which document, and what came out — a photo of the misprinted tag next to a blank sheet answers the alignment questions faster than a description does.
